And the first runner-up is...: comparing winner selection procedures in multi-winner Tullock contests

چکیده
Abstract We characterise the strategic equivalence among k -winner contests using simultaneous and sequential winner selection. test this prediction of a series laboratory experiments, contrasting 1-winner with 2-winner contests, varying in latter whether outcome is revealed sequentially or single stage. find that long run, average bidding levels are similar across strategically-equivalent contests. However, adaptation slower less systematic, which consistent property selection results outcomes more random than case.

Multi-Winner Elections: Complexity of Manipulation, Control and Winner-Determination
Although recent years have seen a surge of interest in the computational aspects of social choice, no attention has previously been devoted to elections with multiple winners, e.g., elections of an assembly or committee. In this paper, we fully characterize the worst-case complexity of manipulation and control in the context of four prominent multi-winner voting systems. Additionally, we show t...

Should a firm favor a weaker or stronger employee in a contest? Despite a widespread emphasis on rewarding the best employees, managers continue to tolerate and even favor poor performers. Contest theory reveals that evenly matched contests are the most intense, which implies that a contest designer can maximize each player’s effort by artificially boosting the underdog’s chances. The Critical Assessment of Small Molecule Identification (CASMI) Contest was founded in 2012 to provide scientists with a common open dataset to evaluate their identification methods. In this review, we summarize the submissions, evaluate procedures and discuss the results. We received five submissions (three external, two internal) for LC-MS Category 1 (best molecular formula) and six submissi...
